Todd Rothenhaus MD, CMIO, athenahealth
"Thanks for a very rich conference. I was glad to connect with thought leaders in health care IT from provider organizations, IT companies, pharma and health plans. For me, this conference is valuable because I get to hear new ideas from a handful of leaders from different sectors who are driving innovation in healthcare IT. Action Groups

What is an Action Group?

Institute Action Groups are charged with providing strategic guidance and tactical support for topic specific areas related to technology and the role it plays in our healthcare system. Each group exists to articulate an innovative voice for the range of technological advancements that continue to impact the healthcare community. By providing domain expertise, leadership and guidance each action group provides cutting edge research, recommendations, guidelines, best practices and new approaches to effectively leverage technology   throughout the continuum of care. Action group members are recognized as industry leaders in their functional area who are passionate about making a meaningful contribution to our healthcare system. Action group findings and recommendations serve as an invaluable tool for industry professionals and their organizations to capture unrealized benefits that healthcare technologies can provide at every level of care.

How We Work Together

To ensure that all organizations have a voice in the process of conceiving, developing, and implementing Action Groups, the Institute has developed a process comprised of face-to-face and virtual sessions for working groups to develop requisite documents and collaborate in an online environment.

Each action group member is invited to attend meetings and teleconferences, and to define a role that fulfills their own organizational objectives while advancing the transformative affect technology can have on our healthcare system.

Action Groups

The Institute has convened a number of Action Groups to advance the healthcare communities knowledge and understanding of the role technology can play in the healthcare system.

These groups focus on the following:

  • • The Electronic Health Record Action Group focuses on best practices for provider organizations using EHRs    within their organization.
  • • The Security Action Group addresses critical issues surrounding the protection and integrity of patient data.
  • • The Patient Engagement Action Group provides guidance on the most effective tactics to foster and develop       the patient-provider relationship through various modes of technology.
  • • The Data Exchange Action Group addresses sustainable models for the secure exchange of health
       information between stakeholders.
  • • The IT Leadership Action Group's goals are to establish new approaches to the   formulation and            implementation of IT strategy and governance within and across a provider organization continuum.

    Areas of Focus

There are numerous areas in which a new model that relies on a "community of communities" and a network for information-sharing can eliminate the deficiencies and inefficiencies of our current healthcare enterprise. (iHT2) Action Groups are a beginning point for greater stakeholder collaboration to achieve a learning healthcare system to improve patient outcomes and accelerate research through the effective application of technology.

Capabilities

The Institute for Health Technology Transformation has a growing list of capabilities that its participants can contribute to Institute activities. These may include industry reports, resources, services, or tools and cover a range of deliverables.

Requirements

We understand that you are a busy professional with numerous commitments and have designed Action Group participation with that in mind. Participation is comprised of a 6 or 12 month commitment and during that time group members are expected to meet once in person and participate in a series of conference calls working toward the Action Group goals and objectives.  Our goal is to work with you developing resources that will directly benefit your peers, colleagues and the overall healthcare system.

Activities

The Institute is implementing various Action Groups through real-world projects, each of which has both an immediate benefit to one or more stakeholders and will serve as a resource to healthcare organizations and professionals that need it most. Projects are conceived, developed and executed by participants through a series of meetings hosted by the Institute that meet virtually and in person. Opportunities exist to present at meetings hosted by the Institute and at other industry events across the country.
